This page showcases my creative writing in fiction and creative nonfiction. Included are short stories, exercises, and essays as well as excerpts from longer pieces (which are available in their entirety upon request). Some of these pieces were written for creative writing classes, but every draft as it appears in the portfolio is the result of excessive editing and revision outside of the classroom environment. All files are in Adobe PDF.

The Daughter's Will
Charles Prescinilli said there had once been a decorative glass covering for the bulb but that one of his clients, angry at learning that her husband had left her nothing, had thrown her stiletto and cracked it. According to the stout lawyer, that had happened years ago. He had just never replaced it. "Why bother?" he'd asked when pressed. "Probably some other woman come in here and throw her shoe at the new one. What's the point then?"

Watching in a Bar
A hesitation. I want to see her face so badly, I barely manage to turn in time. She was never one for details, though, being almost obliviously unobservant at times. I know she won't watch for long, not with him there, but I don't turn back. Three months, and each Thursday is harder. I thought winter was as bad as it could get, but this spring has only grown us apart.

A Character Sketch
There is a large mahogany chest in the basement that is filled with all sorts of clothes, and the girls often amuse themselves by playing dress-up. Katrina likes to put on a coconut bra and pretend to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She tells Michelle, who has to be Eric or Flounder, that it is because she has the prettier voice. Sometimes this discussion breaks out into a fight, and Katrina gets sent to her room.
