This page shows my work in academic and professional writing. Some pieces were first written for class papers, but all have been substantially revised and edited outside of the classroom. Other pieces were created in a strictly professional environment, some intended to appear in a print medium and others in a digital medium. All of the work here is presented in Adobe PDF.

This blog post was written at the request of Roxane Gay, the editor of PANK. It is a how-to piece detailing, from my point of view, how one writes reading passages for standardized tests. It touches on many of the difficulties involved in this type of writing in a light and humorous manner.

This book review of Lydia Millet's Love in Infant Monkeys was published by The Collagist in August of 2010. It looks at various stories from this Pulitzer Prize nominated collection to discuss Millet's ideas of animals and celebrities, and how these can define our humanity

Truthful Fiction
This piece was created in response to Carole Maso's The Art Lover, and it combines creative and academic writing styles. To explore the different stylistic elements that Maso uses, I mimic them in a creative piece of fiction, which is woven into an analytical examination of those elements. Employing some of the same stylistic decisions of Maso allowed me to look at her novel as both reader and writer and allowed me to provide a fuller analysis of her work.
